Understanding Wisdom, Religion, Government, and Vision
Understanding Wisdom, Religion, Government, and Vision
“Of the increase of His government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon His kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth forever, the zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this” (Isaiah 9:7).
As we start this week, I want to just take a few minutes to thank you for continuing to pray for this word and encouragement. It’s important that in each day we live, we recognize the beauty and the loving peace of God our Father. Never give up your hope in Jesus Christ. Good Friday reminded us how one Man came and through His obedience, we are able to enjoy the goodness and the faithfulness of God’s promises. As we celebrated Easter, it was a joy to know that Jesus did it all for us. No matter what you are going through, remember that this too shall come to pass, because of what Jesus accomplished for us on the cross.
Today, I want to share with you some thoughts about how to live our lives with expectation. The Scripture above says that Christ our King will one day come back to rule with His Church forever. When we are able to understand how the Word applies to us individually and corporately, then we will be ready when Christ comes to rule with His Church.
The fundamental hindrance to our being ready is that we practice religion and not “Kingdom.” Religion and religious practices are evident in every culture in the world.
The power of religion lies in its deception. Man is searching for God for answers to the many dilemmas man faces. The answers are in the Kingdom of God. The practice of religion has served as a substitute for the Kingdom. Man remains preoccupied with religion until he finds the kingdom. I have discovered the following truths as to how religion steers and deflects man away from truths found in the Kingdom of God:
§ Religion prepares man to leave Earth. The Kingdom empowers man to dominate Earth.
§ Religion focuses on Heaven. The Kingdom focuses on Earth.
§ Religion reaches up to God. The Kingdom of God is coming down to man.
§ Religion teaches that we are to escape Earth. The Kingdom of God impacts, influences, and changes Earth.
§ Religion seeks to take Earth to Heaven. The Kingdom seeks to bring Heaven to Earth.
Religion is one of the greatest obstacles to the Kingdom, and the practice of such all over the world is evident in its effect on our lives, our cultures, and our societies.
Christianity is a good example. Christianity as a religion is a well-known, well-studied, well-researched and well-recorded practice. There are churches, colleges, manuals, and books that focus on this topic. As a religion, its major focus has been on the substitute truths that I mentioned before. The end result is the propagation of Christian “religious principles.”
When Jesus came on the scene, John the Baptist announced, “Turn to God and change the way you think and act, because the kingdom of heaven is near.” (Matthew 3:2). Jesus represented the Kingdom of God. What did that look like?
To tie together with what we have been talking about today, let’s again begin to discuss the principles of vision.
We know that to live our lives with expectation, we must have a vision. You want an accurate vision. The vision that you have must come from the Kingdom of God and not be based on religion.
Every effective leader or group of people in history (e.g. David, Joshua, Nehemiah) had one thing in common: each had a vision from God that drove them and motivated their actions. You too must have a clearly guiding purpose for your life. God gave Abraham a specific vision. He showed him the Promised Land and said, “That is going to be your vision. You are going to take your offspring there.” Today, I can’t stress enough the need for a guiding vision in life because it is perhaps the single most important key to fulfilling your life’s dream.
Let me say this. You, as an individual, must have your own guiding life vision, and that vision must be absolutely clear to you because, otherwise, you have nothing to aim at, and you will achieve nothing in life. Therefore, when you know and understand what you were born to accomplish, that is purpose in action. You can live a life with expectation.
My friends, when you can see it in your mind by faith and begin to imagine it, now that is vision. You cannot contribute to God’s greater purpose if you do not know your personal vision. If you do not have any sense of focus, you will just be drifting along.
Jesus said in Luke 2:49, “I must be about my Father’s business.” (KJV). During His life, there were many other businesses that He could have been about. Jesus identified the specific life work that was His own and which motivated everything He did.
Whether you are young, middle-aged, or older like me, if you don’t have a clear purpose, you are going to be distracted by every other business in the world. The world is an extremely busy place, full of ideas. You must realize that when you set your mind on what you want to do, all the other businesses in the world will try to get in the way of it.
Friends, having a clear guiding purpose will enable you to stay on track when you are tempted to be distracted by lesser or nonessential things. I have discovered in life that the key to life is not only knowing who you are, but why you are. One thing is certain. It is more important to know why you were born than to know just the fact that you were born.
When you don’t know your reason for existence, you will begin to experiment with your life. That is very dangerous. You must capture the meaning for your life; capture a clear vision for your existence. Moreover, you should know who you are, that is, your origin and purpose in God as well as your abilities and plans for the future.
So, sit tight and let me ask you some difficult but necessary questions. Have you changed jobs several times in the last few years? Do you keep changing your major in college? Do you go from one thing to another because you are bored or dissatisfied?
If that is so, then you are lacking vision. My friends, this morning, you were not created to be bored and dissatisfied. As for myself, I sometimes think that I need more time from God so I can do more towards my vision. That is why I can’t wait to wake up in the morning and don’t want the sun to go down. Have you ever thought that way sometimes?
Why is this? It is because I want to squeeze everything I can out of each day because I have a vision to fulfill. My vision keeps me passionate. In Proverbs 6: 10-11 it says, “A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of hands to rest-and poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like and armed man.” Did you know that is in the Bible?
You see, lazy people are visionless people, and bored people are those who haven’t yet found their purpose. Here comes the punch line: It is you who must choose where you want to go in life and then be decisive and faithful in carrying it out. Please, I beg you, not to put off the decision or be afraid to make a decision.
Let me remind you that when you are deciding, make sure not to cut yourself short. You should be shooting for the stars - the clouds are too low. Instead, make the clouds your cushion in case you fall. Just remember that vision is not the same thing as a goal, such as the goals of building a house, buying a sports car, or having a lot of money in the bank. Vision contains purpose.
This is why having a purpose and vision has to do with the existence of your life. Vision will enable you to answer the question, “Why was I born?” In the same manner, while you can’t know all the ramifications of your life, even though God may reveal it to you in eternity, you should have a good idea of the purpose He has given you to accomplish here on earth. Without it, all you are doing is existing.
Have an awesome week, and continue doing what God has given you in purpose. You are not alone in life. You are only alone if you let yourself feel that way. God says, “I will never leave you nor forsake you." His promises for you are yes and amen! Whatever you think in life is not easy for you tackle, just pray to God for help. There will be a God idea that comes your way to fix that problem.
Never let other people or friends distract you from what you are destined to do. If you know what you are passionate about, then do it. Stop asking others, who do not have any idea of what you are trying to do in life. If you ask the wrong person, you might end up in the same situations they are going through.
For example, if you are sick, you do not go to a mechanic to fix you up. You need to see a doctor. He is an expert in knowing about what medicine or what kind of treatment that you need for your body. The mechanics are experienced in fixing cars. This is why your vision must be received and understood.
May God be with you as you face this week with love and joy in the Holy Ghost. Remember, you are not by yourself. God is with you. Be focused and use the tools that He has given you to face life. Get the Word of God and read it. Prayer is the key to everything. You have favor with our God if you follow His ways! Go with God and be blessed. To God be the glory, forevermore!
My prayer for you: Father, we just want to thank You for all that You have done for us. As we start this week, we know that through relationship with You in prayer, we can see the unseen; all that You have purposed us to do in life. We pray for those who are going through hard times and different circumstances of life’s journey. Help them with the answer to their pain. Help them to realize that there is nothing that is impossible with You. If we put our trust in Your hands, You will fight all of our battles. When we have done everything else and been unsuccessful, You remind us to just stand and see Your hand taking care of all the situations in life. Whoever is going through sickness or something that is not right with their bodies, there is no one Who is more familiar with all the parts of the human body than You, our God. You created us in Your image. You know our hearts and You can fix anything that is not right in our bodies. As we celebrate the victory in Your Son, Jesus, we know that He has done it all for us. You remind us that You are always faithful to Your Word. We must learn not to run away from You but run to You, our Heavenly Father. I pray for those who are in need of a fresh touch of life today. Let them return to You because You gave us love and hope to live life to the fullest. Thank You for caring for us. Bless Your people this morning and all throughout this week. May Your blessings be with them and watch their footsteps as they step out to walk life’s journey. Forgive them from their sins. Let Your favor be in the midst of whatever they may face this week. Give them the love and patience to face those who are negative towards them. We love You! In Jesus’ wonderful Name, Amen!
Thought: You were not created to be bored!
