Your Potential is Realized When You Say Yes to Your Dream
“And the Earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and itself, after his kind, and God said it was good.” (Genesis 1:12).
Your Potential Is Realized When You Say Yes to Your Dream!
It is a good day to give thanks to our King and the Lord of lords. Thank God for another opportunity to tap into His Kingdom. Many fall short of fulfilling what they were purposed to do, but as a child of the King, we should never, ever stop increasing our understanding of the unseen Kingdom.
Some day, very soon, we will be caught up with Jesus Christ our King and reign with Him forever. We should always remember to live each day as if it is our last day on earth. Some of you ask, why? It is because it shows you are not depending on earthly things that evaporate and disappear or focus on situations that make you depressed.
But we are not talking about that. I am here to encourage you that the best is yet to come, and that your blessings are connected to your faith in the unseen Kingdom. Please do not limit your thinking only to what you can see. Know that your hope is in Jesus and in the blessings that He is providing you every day that you are here on this earth.
Let’s begin today’s study on how we can be a blessing and encourage one another about our potential.
Just last week at our Sunday morning service, a thought came to me and I shared part of it with Brother Sam at church. The thought was “There are many tombstones that surround some people’s resting place.” I did not go into detail of what I meant about that, but the whole day, that thought continued to run through my mind. Now let me share it with you.
People have recorded lifespans of twenty, forty, sixty, and maybe eighty years, yet the only testimony to their time on this planet was the words, “Rest in Peace.”
My question is, “How can you rest in peace if you died with all of your potential inside?” I was thinking about this as I was walking and the wet, misty rain formed dew drops on my cheeks. I started thinking about the funeral of a young child that I once attended a few years ago.
Man, what a tragedy it was for a child to die at such a tender age, before he had the opportunity to realize his real, full potential. Have you ever stopped to think about your daily life and your potential? Is it not a greater tragedy if those who lived to an old age carried their music, art, books, inventions, potential, and dreams to the graves?
Suddenly, the rain seemed to turn to sweat as I pondered the awesome implication of this question. One of my greatest fears is that many who walk the streets of our world today, perhaps even some who are reading this word of encouragement, will also deposit the wealth of locked potential inside of them to the cemeteries in their communities.
Today, I trust that you will not allow the grave to rob this world of your talent and your awesome potential. As you know, there are more than 7 billion people living on this planet which we call earth. Each one is very special, unique, original, and significant to God.
All possess a genetic combination that codes them as distinct individuals whose fingerprints cannot be duplicated. Yes, you are created more special than any other creation on the earth. There is absolutely no one like you now, nor will there ever be.
We were conceived by destiny, produced by purpose, and packaged with potential to live a meaningful, fulfilling life. Deep within you lies a seed of greatness waiting to be germinated. You have been endowed with natural talents, gifts, desires, and dreams.
You see, all of humanity - all cultures, races, and socio-economic situations - live with the natural instinct to manifest potential. The entire creation possesses this principle of potential. Everything has the natural instinct to release its own ability.
Even the plant and animal kingdom abound with evidences of this fact. Moreover, the Creator designed everything with this principle of potential, which can be simplified to the concept of a seed. The Biblical document states that God created everything with “seed in it according to their kind.” (Genesis 1:12).
So in essence, hidden within everything is the potential to fulfill itself and produce much more than we see. Today, I can say with assurance that you have the ability to accomplish everything your God-given purpose demands. Your Creator has given you the responsibility of releasing this precious seed in obedience to His commands, for the releasing of your potential is not up to God, but to you.
Let’s finish up with Principle #2, which is: You have to know your potential for fulfilling your vision.
Everything that you do and everything about you is determined by your purpose. It is God who built you, designed you, and gave you the right makeup for it.
God built you for what you’re supposed to do. Your potential isn’t dependent on what you perceive as your limitations. Many people have made the following statements to limit what God called them to be:
“I did not get that job because I did not have enough education.” “I am too ugly. “ I am too short.” “I know that I am a part of a minority group.” The list of limitations goes on and on. They are all excuses and they are not valid. You are perfect for your potential. The best thing for you to understand is that your heritage and ethnic mix, the color of your skin, your language, your height, and of all your other physical features are made for the fulfillment of your vision.
Everything God gave you to do, you are able to do. Everything God put in your heart to do, you have the corresponding ability to accomplish them. Your dreams are given to draw out what’s already inside of you and to activate God’s power in enabling us to achieve our visions.
This is why God may give us dreams that are bigger than our education. Take me, for instance. I shouldn’t be able to do what I am currently doing based on my background and the expectations of the society I grew up in. Likewise, your background may be saying what you can or cannot do.
Some people may not believe you can do a certain thing, but yet, why does it matter what they think? Keep doing what God tells you to do. You will be fine! One thing for sure is that God never gives us dreams to frustrate us; He gives us dreams to deliver us from mediocrity and to reveal our true selves to the world.
You know, the more I study the Word of God, the more I realize that God appoints, anoints, and distinguishes people. What He doesn’t like is for us to get lost in mediocrity. In effect, He told, Abraham, Moses, and David to come out. He called them out so they wouldn’t be lost among the average.
You know, the ability to accomplish your vision is manifested when you say yes to your dream and obey God. Nehemiah’s job as a cupbearer did not give him the ability to rebuild the wall of Jerusalem. Even still, God had placed him in that position for a reason, and Nehemiah trusted God to provide what was needed. You do not know how your present job may contain hidden potential for your true life’s work. Your job may even be making a way for the resources you need to fulfill your vision.
Nehemiah had favor as a trusted servant of the monarch. God increased his favor with the king so that Nehemiah could fulfill his vision. It is God who reveals our potential as we act upon our dreams. We should note that after Nehemiah had stepped out in faith and articulated his vision, in answer to the king’s question, “What is it you want?” (Nehemiah 2:4), his ability and resources came into place.
The King gave Nehemiah letters granting him safe passage to Jerusalem and giving him access to timber from the king’s forest for the rebuilding of the wall. Basically, the king paid for the project. The king also appointed Nehemiah as governor in the land of Judah so that he had the authority to carry out the reconstruction of the wall (Nehemiah 2:7-10; 5:14.)
In closing, let’s consider an analogy from nature to again see how God wants us to use our potential. God gave trees the ability to reproduce themselves through their seed. By doing this, He was commanding trees to come out of seeds. Then God told humankind that by planting seeds and putting them in the right environment, they will fulfill their potential by becoming fully grown trees.
Our lives are like seed. We were born with the potential to fulfill purpose and the destiny that He had already established within us. When God gives us a vision, He’s simply calling for what He put into that person.
This is why you can always determine what you can do by the dream that is within you. You can plant the seed of your vision by beginning to act on it and then nurturing it by faith. Moreover, your vision will develop until it is fully grown and will bear much fruit in the world.
The action steps for your vision are:
1: Ask yourself this question: How can you begin to “plant the seed” of your vision today? Let God move you forward into your blessings and destiny. Let God know what you want. Never let anyone steal the joy from you of what you have been dreaming for years to accomplish.
2: Take a “virtual tour” of your dream. Imagine all the details of the complete vision and ask Him to enable you to take your idea from a dream to full-fledged reality. Be faithful to it and follow it through to the end. Say to yourself, “I got it.” Trust God to the point of no return.
Go with God all the way and have an awesome week.
Prayer: Father, discuss with my my potential and how I am supposed to live and follow. Without courage, I can never practice any other virtue with consistency. I can’t even be kind, true, merciful, generous, or honest. Remind me, oh God, that I must not allow the grave to rob my latent and awesome potential. As the study of today’s Word showed, let me know that a seed of greatness lies within me, waiting to be germinated. Yes, I know You have endowed me with natural talents, gifts, desires, and dreams to do anything that my purpose directs. Help me to successfully complete my vision as I understand more and more the potential that You have put in me. I know that the power of potential is at work in all of us. Your vision and Your Spirit within us is more than enough potential for my needs. I know that I am perfect for my purpose. I understand in You, my Lord, that I have the ability to accomplish my vision. I am ready to accomplish the work and manifest the vision with all of my being. Help me to remove my unbelief. Remove the spirit of laziness out of me, so I can stand up on my own two feet and say, “I will follow You, Lord, all the way. My tomorrows are not known to me, but You, God, will lead me all the way.” I keep reminding myself of how high, how deep, and how wide Your love for me really is. I pray that Jesus Christ will be more and more at home in my heart living within me, as I trust in Him. May my roots go down deep into the soil of Your marvelous love.
My prayer for you: Father, bless Your people this week as they live their lives. Whatever they are doing, let Your peace and favor be with them. We pray this in Jesus’ wonderful name, amen!
Thought: Your love is unending!
