Have the Creative Power of Faith!
“Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us” (Hebrews 12:1).
Have the Creative Power of Faith!
Welcome back for more of learning about the Kingdom and how it operates. It is good to say that this is the day that the Lord has made. We should always rejoice and be glad in it. How are you doing so far? I hope you didn’t answer that question with a frown! I do know that some of you are going through some hard times this morning. Well, take a deep breath and let it out. Take another one!
It is important that you stop blaming everything on your failures, but learn to really trust in Jesus, the Author and the Finisher of your faith. He can take care of what you need if you just let Him. Learn to trust Him and His Word!
Now are you ready for another encouragement week? Of course, I am! You know, I believe it is our Creator’s will and desire that we decide to commit, dedicate, and determine within ourselves, to achieve the full maximization of our potential.
And once again, the questions are echoed. Have we fully utilized our abilities, talents, and gifts? Or have we just settled for the norm? Did we do our best? Have we allowed others to place limitations on our potential, or have we created self-imposed limitations? Just think about that for a moment and ask yourself those questions.
You know, it is essential that you come to grips with these questions because they are related to your personal fulfillment and contribution to the human family and to the pleasure of your Creator. Did you know that you have been endowed by your Creator with immeasurable treasures of ability, specifically designed and tailored to accomplish everything your God-given purpose demands?
Not only that, but you are equipped with all you need in order to do all you were created to do. The releasing of your potential is not up to God, but to you. You determine the degree to which your destiny is accomplished. You determine the measure of your own success - the success that is established by the Creator’s assignment for your life.
Let me illustrate this with a personal experience.
A few years back when we were in Germany, I was privileged to purchase a name-brand video player recorder for my family from the Exchange, which they call the PX for some military who shop there. As I arrived home with my purchase, I so eagerly anticipated the exciting process of installing this wonder of technology. My daughter joined me as I sat on the floor of our living room to open this new treasure for our home. With unrestricted haste, I ripped open the carton and dislodged the machine from its styrofoam packing, ignoring the manual booklet that fell to the floor beside me.
Then, using the basic knowledge I had obtained from others whom I had observed installing similar machine, I proceeded to show my skills and wisdom. After trying to connect a few wires and flipping a few switches, I was ready to test my expertise. I know you have been there, some of you fathers. What happened next was I took a videocassette, placed it in the machine, turned on the television, and pressed play.
As the picture appeared on the screen, I felt a sense of pride and personal accomplishment, like all fathers do. Then, turning to my daughter, I said, “You know, there it is. We’re in business.” We sat and watched for a while. Then, something occurred that changed my life forever. There, right in front of me, the inquisitive nature of my daughter began to work.
She drew closer to the video machine and pointed to the row of 12 or maybe more buttons and asked, “What are they for, dad?”. There, in my attempts to show my fatherly wisdom and adult advantage in knowledge, I leaned forward and examined the buttons.
She got me, because I quickly realized that I was unable to explain any of the functions indicated by the buttons except those next to it, like pause, rewind, stop, and play, and I found myself exposing my ignorance to my young daughter. But, so glad that mommy was not right there at that time. From that day until now, I have learned a lesson that has become a major pillar and a turning point of my life.
So we use that to continue from where we left off from Principle #5: you must develop the faith for your vison.
Did you know that Jesus was filled with faith, and He was the calmest person on earth? He slept soundly in the middle of a storm. When His frightened disciples woke Him up, He asked them, “Do you still have no faith? (Mark 4:40). Now He was telling them, “If you have faith, you’ll be able to sleep during a storm as well.”
Think about it for a minute, because you may be saying something like, “This doesn’t sound very practical.” But it is, however. I have been choosing to live this way by faith instead of fearing for very long about anything. I believe that, ultimately, everything is working together for my good. The Bible says that all things work for my good because I love the Lord and I am called according to God’s purpose (Romans 8:28). Even the schemes of the devil work to my benefit.
Let me explain how faith works. To understand, we need to examine more closely how God functions. You see, in Jeremiah 1:12, God declared, “I am watching to see that my word is fulfilled.” The New American Standard Bible says it this way: “I am watching over my Word to perform it.”
As this verse, along with many others throughout the Bible demonstrates, God always brings His words into being. What did God use to create the universe? Yes, He used His Word! Moreover, all through the account of Creation, we read, “God said...” (Genesis 1:3, 6 9, 11, 14, 20, 24, 26). It was God Who took things from an idea unto existence, with His Word!
Therefore, the result was that everything God saw in His mind’s eye for earth and the rest of the universe became visible reality in the physical world. It is God who created everything by speaking His thoughts into being. There is nothing on earth that is more important than a thought. Thoughts are more important than words because words are produced from thoughts.
And yet, while thoughts are the most important things on earth, words are the most powerful. That point is very crucial to understand because, while thoughts design a future, words create that future. You know, there is nothing that happens until you start talking about it. You can think about something for twenty years or maybe thirty, and just thinking about it would not bring it to pass.
You see, creative power is not in thoughts alone; it is in the words (and actions) that came from them. Whether those words are spoken or written, they are full of creative power. So therefore, when you speak words expressing what you see in your vision, your words become creative power to help bring that vision to fruition.
There is a negative aspect to this truth, as well. You can undermine your vision by what you continually say about yourself - things such as: “I am really fat”, “I am too slow”, “I am not that intelligent”, “I am a timid person”, “I do not like people that much”, “I am a failure”, or “I will always have a mortgage to pay.” You know, things like “I am…” or “I am not…”. You fill in the rest.
And of course, you will become everything you constantly declare about yourself. That is the power of the words that you keep saying. Compounding this problem is the fact that the devil knows God and His ways very well. Satan knows that the key to creating anything is having a clear vision of it and speaking it into existence. That is why he wants you to speak negative rather than positive things - so that your effectiveness for God’s kingdom will be negated.
But we can also help to protect our visions by guarding what we say. If you want to fulfill your vision, you must speak differently than you have many times before. Instead of saying things like, “I will always have a mortgage”, why don’t we start to say, “I am going to be debt-free.” Please can you say that?
In closing, you may have been imagining that you don’t owe any bills, but you have to start saying it, as well. Just say, “My God will meet all [my] needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus” (Philippians 4:19), then pray, “My Lord, please perform Your Word.” Then you have agreed with God’s Word - you have to speak! The vision does not have any power until you talk about it. Have a good week and be blessed.
Prayer: Father, I give You praise this day for what You continue doing on our behalf. We understand that we have to fully utilize our abilities, talents, and gifts, and not settle for the norms. We must always ask ourselves the question of whether or not we did our best. Remind us that we should not let others place limitations on our potential. Even with our own thoughts, let us not create any self-imposed limitations. Thank You for reminding us that we determine the degree to which our destiny is accomplished. You have given us all we need for the accomplishment of Your own purpose. You even say in Your Word that only by grace through faith can we know You our God, by receiving Christ Your Son, and living the Christian life to take hold of the provisions for our needs. The enemy knows how to use every delaying tactic to discourage us, and try to stave off the inevitable. This is why we have to stay in there, even if there is a delay, because You, oh God, do everything righteously. We see that thoughts are the most important, and words are the most powerful. We must always use the creative power of faith not to undermine our vision through negative thoughts and words. From the start of each day to the time we go to bed, let us remember not to allow our thoughts to stay negative. May we always strive to think confess positively that our walk and talk are the same. Bless us today and this whole week. Help us to see the reality which we are living in, and in the midst of it, may we be encouraged to remain faithful citizen of the Kingdom. Bless our coming and going. Let Your favor be with us always. We pray this, in Jesus’ wonderful Name, Amen!
